Devious Journal Entry

Sun Nov 1, 2009, 7:54 AM
well good morning folkems! Here is what the olympic committee of Canada would like me to say:

Ahh, it's a bright crisp morning in Nanaimo here. Having just arrived home from the torch relay, I'm sitting here enjoying my refreshing Coca-Cola Zero. What a great start to the day!

In actual fact, while it may be on the crisp side today, I'm crankily sitting here after deciding I'm too awake to go back to bed. The olympic torch ran right by our road at 6:30 (bit less than an hour ago!) and while olympic spirit is lovely and all that, bringing nations together etc, it's a little spirit crushing when you see that this huge event is being turned into a big fat endorsement. So we're standing on the corner shivering, all these police motorbikes burbling around (new hybrids I guess....they sounded like they were straight out of star wars!) and we're looking for this TORCH THING that's supposed to come by. First comes more police cars and vans and busses and things, then a couple of huge semi trucks with dance parties on the back, with a bunch of tracksuit-clad overly enthusiastic people (the Tim Hortons down the road miiiight have helped a bit). Bah! It's barely even light out yet people! They were waving and grinning and handing out plastic flag things (OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY on one side, COKE - OPEN HAPPINESS on the other) and this lady comes by asking if we want a coke zero or not. I said 'Not really' and got one anyway, but hey, the bottle's kinda cool (specially made for the relay, doncha nooo) and I can sell it on ebay for a load of mullah in 50 years, right? Yeah, then another semi comes by with the RBC party this time. Oh yeah, we got to see the torch, too. Crazy, eh? The thing we actually went to go see! No way! A dude holding a white thing with flame coming out the top, wearing his nice clean white jogging suit from the olympic clothing line! Anyway, there's my cynical commentary for the morning proving how I'm turning into Oscar from Corner Gas. 'Jackasses!'
For halloweird this year I was purple! Currently am a little still, haven't had a shower yet...the body paint is kinda half on. Hope youse folks had a good one and that all you imaginative artsy people came up with rad costume ideas (if halloween's yer thing, yknoww). I think it's time to go attempt sleep once again, this time I don't have any party trucks to look forward to, trying to infiltrate the subconscious of my mind to make it submit to the consumerism overlord and all that. (...anyone seen that new michael (or is it michEAL?) moore epic? any good?)
jumbalaya!

hahaha ... i wish. went hiking once since i got back from uni, and that was only a one day hike. i'm holding down 2 jobs at the moment, one full-time and one that's only 2 nights a week (so far) ... but by the sounds of it you know how it is with the getting of money and such. i have to say though, the hike was pretty awesome, cuz it involved caving in a limestone cave (even found what i would love to think of as a fossil) ;) ... but yeah, just have to keep on keeping on :)

the jobsing sounds intense! Hope yer getting some sleep in there..>< What are you doing for them? not full time for both of mine, so I'm slacking off compared to you, but yes, yes. Must love money here in this time where jobs are impossible to find. YAY! ahhhh. Hiking is really awesome...gotta say it's kind of underrated. Woah, and all spelunking too...and if fossils (with a question mark :P) are included then even better. :D hehe.

one (the fulltime) i'm working at a museum, organizing weekly kids activities and a thousand other little things, and the part time (but more time than i'd like to allocate to it) is at the local info centre, where i give a weekly "talk"-interpretive session on the building of the Canadian Rockies, and also work the desk at the infocentre part :)
